NEW YORK, USA --The Big Cheese, created by veteran cheese carver Troy Landwehr, depict John Trumbull’s iconic painting of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and made from a 2,000-pound (one ton) block of cheddar cheese, which
sets the world record for the largest cheese sculpture.

Longest chain of shoes-National Geographic Kids magazine sets world record
  WASHINGTON D.C., USA --National Geographic Kids magazine set a World Record Wednesday for the longest chain of shoes: more than 10,500 sneakers were tied together by their laces, heel to toe, measuring a total length of 1.65 miles.

 Most efficient cut-size line-Mondi Neusiedler sets world record
 Ulmerfeld-Hausmening, Austria/Hamburg --Mondi Neusiedler converted and packed 614 metric tons of A4 papers Within 24 hours, setting the new world record on its 12-pocket cut-size line, for the most efficient cut-size line.

   Due to the rather small order volumes, sometimes only one Euro pallet (equivalent to 500 kg or 200 reams), the machine operators performed 21 order changes and 10 packaging material changes.

 Largest guitar ensemble-Concordstock sets world record    CONCORD, CA, USA--On Tuesday night at Todos Santos Plaza in Concord, 2,052 people came from all over to play Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" simultaneously, setting the new world record for "largest guitar ensemble."

The record-breaking performance was part of Concordstock, a bevy of events all summer to celebrate 20 years of music in Concord.

 Longest cable-stayed bridge-the Sutong Bridge sets world record
  NANJING, China-- The Sutong Bridge, a cable stayed bridge that spans the Yangtze River, between Nantong and Changshu, has a span of 1,088 metres (3,570 ft) and sets a world record for the longest span cable-stayed bridge.

    "The main navigational opening is 62 meters in height and 891 meters wide, which allows the passage of huge vessels with a cargo capacity up to 50,000 tonnes," said Wu Shouchang, chief engineer of the construction

 Longest concert-Balatonfured Guitar Festival sets world record
   BUDAPEST, Hungay--Musicians performed for 216 hours continuously at a resort by Lake Balaton, thereby achieving a world record for the longest concert by multiple artists, during the Balatonfured Guitar Festival.
  For ten days, day and night, 1,000 musicians in 350 groups of all shapes and sizes lined up to take the stage -- classical guitarists, jazz, Latin, flamenco and rock musicians all did their stuff -- the youngest among them just seven years old.

   Largest champagne glass-Vini nel Mondo sets world record
ROME, Italy --Weighing in at 203cm tall and with a diameter of 46cm, this glass has set the world record for the largest champagne glass.
    It took 11 magnum bottles (16,5 litres) to fill this huge cup; filled with spumante Asti DOGG of course.

  ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan--An official ceremony of raising the Turkmen state flat on top a 133 meter high flagstaff, sets the world record for the Highest flagstaff.
  In the accompaniment of the state anthem of Turkmenistan, a 52,2 x 35 m state flag weighing 420 kg was ceremonially raised on top the flagstaff.


  
Most weight lost-world record set by Manuel Uribe
 MONTERREY, Mexico--Manuel Uribe, who once weighed 1,235 punds, has lost more than 500 pounds, thanks to an international team of doctors led by Dr. Barry Sears, creator of the Zone Diet. setting a new world record for the most weight lost.

 He weighed 717pounds (324 kg) in May after losing 518 pounds (235 kg) since March 2006 on a diet of grapefruits, egg-white omelets, fish, chicken and vegetables.


  Youngest lead climbing world champion-Johanna Ernst sets world record
  XINING, China--Johanna Ernst, a 15-year-old Austrian girl, won the women's lead final in IFSC World Cup on Saturday in Qinghai of northwest China, setting the world record for the youngest world champion in this series.
   Photo: Johanna Ernst, ranked 21st in the world before Saturday, was the only athlete that reached the top in the final. She was also the only one that got top all in qualification, semifinal and final.

  Largest Hockey Stick and Puck-Cowichan Valley sets world record
DUNCAN,Vancouver Island,Canada--The Cowichan Community Centre, in Duncan on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, boasts a 205-foot (62.48 m), 61,000 pounds (28,118 kgs) hockey stick -setting the world record for the Largest Hockey Stick and Puck.

  Fastest circumnavigation using Biodiesel-Earthrace sets world record
  SAGUNTO, Spain--Earthrace took 61 days to circle the globe, setting the new world record for the   Fastest circumnavigation using Biodiesel.
   Photo: Earthrace is a 78 foot alternative fuel powered wave-piercing trimaran, it can carry 3,000 gallons of fuel, and weighs 23 tonnes when fully fuelled.

  Most expensive newspaper copy-Romanian newspaper sets world record
BUCHAREST, Romania-- The "Auroch and the Eagle" ("Zimbrulu and Vulturulu"), bought for 830 000 Euros by Joseph Hackmey. sets the world record for the most expensive newspaper copy in the world.
    Photo: The "Auroch and the Eagle" newspaper was printed in Iasi (Romania) in 1858 and was sent by mail in 1858 and paid with no less than 8 of the priceless Auroch’s head stamps.

   At the last auction, held in Geneva by the „David Feldman" auction house, the piece had a starting price of 500.000 Euro and was sold for 700.000 Euro to Joseph Hackmey. With fees and commissions involved, the final price reached 829.500 Euros.


Largest number of Kuchipudi Dancers-world record set in Cupertino
CUPERTINO, Calif., USA--380 kuchipudi dancers set a world record for being the largest group of kuchipudi dancers performing continually for 8 1/2 minutes on a flat stage.  
 Photo: Dancers flew in from Russia, India, Singapore, Germany, England, Canada and all over the United States. They flocked to Cupertino, not only to set a world record but for the world's first international three-day kuchipudi convention, organized by Kuchibhotla's group, Silicon Andhra.

 Most books donated-world record set by Rotary International
LOS ANGELES, USA--Rotarians at the 2008 RI Convention demonstrated their commitment to literacy by setting a Guinness world record for the most books donated during a seven-day period: 242,624 books were collected this week for public school students in Southern California and Southern Nevada.

   Biggest spadefish-world record set by Leo Olivarez
[June 23]Chesapeake Bay,VA,USA--While fishing for bluefish to use as flounder bait, Leo Olivarez landed a world record spadefish that weighed 9 pounds, 13 ounces.
    Leo Olivarez, a utility contractor company supervisor from Virginia Beach, was fishing around the rocks of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel's third island.   
  He was fishing for one species, which he was planning to use to catch another, when a completely different species hit his lure. The strike ended up providing him the catch of a lifetime. (more...)

[June 23] LONDON, UK--Over 40,000 children across the UK gave up their beds at home to sleep out at over 1,200 Giant Sleepover venues to raise money for Save the Children's Emergency Fund, setting the new world record for the largest simultaneous sleepover.    While raising vital money for children around the world - and for one night sharing the experience of what is a daily reality for many children affected by emergencies - all the children participating were attempting to break the World Record - and they succeeded!(more...)

   Longest journey around the world -world record set by Rosie Swale Pope
[June 21] EDINBURGH, Scotland,UK-- The 61-year-old Rosie Swale Pope, who travelled 32,000km (20,000miles) across 12 countries, arrived in Scrabster in the north of Scotland, setting the world record for the Longest around the world journey.
   Photo: Rosie Swale-Pope wore out 45 pairs of shoes in more than 240 weeks of running on a trek around the world that began after the death of her husband in 2003 from pancreatic cancer. She said the adventure began as a way to raise awareness for the disease.   (enlarge photo)

[June 21] KELLER, TX, USA--Chemistry students at Fossil Ridge High School set a world record for the largest periodic table of elements.

[June 20] VIENNA, Austria--Online betting company Betfair has secured the World Record for the world's largest advertising hoarding, which has to be viewed from the air and is located near Vienna airport.
  The world's largest advertisement measures 1,380m by 316m, creating a total area of 436,000 square metres.
